Schon nach wenigen Minuten entstehen Bilder, die durch Auswaschen mit Wasser entwickelt und dauerhaft fixiert werden. Die Magie dieses Verfahrens beruht jedoch auf einem wissenschaftlichen, chemischen Prozess. Eine Lösung aus Kaliumhexacyanidoferrat und Ammoniumeisen(III)-citrat bildet unter UVEinwirkung den wasserunlöslichen Farbstoff Preußisch Blau. Dieser intensive Blauton gab dem Verfahren auch den Namen Blaudruck.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAls Pionierin der Cyanotypie gilt die britische Naturwissenschaftlerin Anna Atkins (1799–1871).
