Creative Process with Bio Materials
Walking, collecting, and casting with biopolymers
1 August | Saturday | 13:00–17:00 | 4 hours
Mediator: Valeria Solari
Language: English

Open to adults and children. No previous experience required.

The workshop combines walking, collecting, and making through an exploration of natural materials and bio-based fabrication.

Beginning with a guided gathering walk across Tempelhof Field, participants will collect dried grasses, seed heads, fibres, and other natural traces found in the landscape. Through observation and collection, the field becomes a site for reading the city as a material environment.

Returning to U8 HAUS, participants will work with an algae-derived biopolymer to cast and preserve the materials they have gathered. By embedding these found elements within translucent bio-based forms, each participant will create a small sculptural object.

Through the acts of collecting and making, the workshop offers a hands-on encounter with materials, ecology, and the city. At its core is an invitation to understand materials through direct engagement.

About Valeria Solari:

Valeria Solari (b.1979, Vina del Mar, Chile) is a Berlin-based artist developing her own biomaterials from algae and microorganisms as the foundation for works in installation, sculpture, painting, and moving image. Through experimental techniques, she cultivates and transforms these organisms, exploring the intimate relationship between the human hand and nonhuman life. She investigates growth, transformation, and decay as a common condition across living beings, materials, and ecosystems, proposing more-than-human ways of understanding.
