martin binder

The anthropocentric view of nature, the relationship between the concepts of nature and culture, and the intersections between human-made landscapes and wilderness serve as sources of inspiration for Martin Binder’s (b.1990, Göttingen, Germany) works, in which innovative technologies are combined with manual processes. He is particularly interested in the disconnect between industrially produced building materials and the origins of these materials. His multimedia works frequently address humanity’s instrumentalization of nature as a source of resources. The birch tree is both motif and symbol of Binder’s engagement with the ecosystems surrounding him, within the context of planetary boundaries.
